Where should I go for Care?

When illness, accidents, and injuries happen, where should you go for care? The answer depends on the seriousness and type of illness. Generally speaking,

  • Call your doctor’s office first during regular business hours and after hours.

  • Silver Cross Urgent Care Centers and Hedges Clinic Urgent Care have extended hours and same-day appointments when your doctor’s office is closed.
Be sure to verify that your insurance plan covers care received at these locations before seeking care. You may also want to contact your doctor for more information.

  • The emergency department is for very serious or life-threatening problems.

For most problems, you should call your doctor first.*

You get the best care when you see your regular health care provider. He or she knows you and your medical history. Your personal doctor can also help you better manage your health over time. Unless you have a life-threatening emergency, always start with your doctor’s office or clinic.
