Accepting new patients.

Dr. Markus interned at Michael Reese Hospital, where in his fifth year of training, he was named chief resident and achieved the highest score among all orthopedic residents nationwide in general orthopedics on the mandatory in-service examination.  He then passed the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons certifying exam, achieving a score in the top 4% of all examinees, including university faculty.

In practice since 1991, Dr. Markus initially worked out of St. Francis and Palos hospitals, performing hand surgery, pediatric orthopedic surgery, foot and ankle surgery, elbow and shoulder surgery, hip and knee replacements, surgical management of fractures, as well as treating sports injuries, including ACL reconstructions.

In 2004, he left hospital practice to focus on non-operative and minimally invasive orthopedic care. With a unique full-time office practice, he is typically available to see patients on short notice, treating his patients as if they were family members.

He believes his role is to not only inform patients of their options, but also to listen to what patients want and expect. To minimize risk to his patients, he limits his surgical practice to the absolute lowest risk of all orthopedic procedures, knee arthroscopy, of which he has performed more than 1,000.

He also focuses on office-based care of soft-tissue injuries and fractures with applications of splints and casts, along with treatment of chronic degenerative conditions with medication and site-specific injections.

Outside of his practice, he is more comfortable with risk, having scratched off 70-foot cliff jumping and motorcycle track racing from his bucket list.

While a good thrill is always fun, Dr. Markus says nothing beats the serenity and comfort of spending uninterrupted time with family and friends.
