As our hospital has grown, so has demand for laboratory services. Since opening our new campus, annual testing volume has increased from approximately 850,000 tests to an estimated 2 million tests, reflecting both the trust our community places in Silver Cross and the increasing complexity of healthcare. Today, our laboratory is operating at capacity and has reached its physical limits.
To meet the needs of our patients today and into the future, Silver Cross is launching a $6 million Clinical Laboratory Expansion and Modernization Project. This transformative initiative will expand and enhance key laboratory departments, including Microbiology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Hematology, Coagulation, Molecular Diagnostics, and Special Testing.
Why This Project Matters
The laboratory is one of the most critical yet unseen components of patient care. Nearly every patient who enters our hospital benefits from laboratory testing, whether they are receiving emergency treatment, recovering from surgery, managing a chronic illness, or welcoming a new baby.
The expansion will:
- Improve turnaround times for critical diagnostic testing.
- Increase access to advanced testing performed on-site.
- Reduce the need to send tests to outside laboratories, minimizing delays and improving continuity of care.
- Strengthen Blood Bank capabilities for patients requiring specialized blood products.
