Arthur & Vera Smith

Arthur and Vera Smith’s brilliant foresight and tremendous generosity helped make the building of a 92,000 square foot outpatient pavilion a reality. In 1998, the Arthur and Vera Smith Pavilion at Silver Cross Hospital opened providing surgical services, dialysis and outpatient testing. Their selfless estate gift laid the foundation for the Hospital to offer advanced treatments, new technology and increased comfort for tens and thousands of patients annually.

A Will to Give

The Smiths were significant contributors in their time, talent and resources to many worthy causes in Will County. A teacher most of her life, Vera knew the importance of learning. In 1998 she established an endowed scholarship to provide perpetual funds to advance the education of caregivers.

Vera also volunteered as a member of Silver Cross Hospital’s founding organization –the Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons and was a member of the Celebrity Spotlight Committee raising funds for the Hospital’s medical emergency response system.

It was Arthur’s service as a member of the Hospital’s Board of Trustee’s for 10 years that inspired the Smith’s donation for the outpatient pavilion.

Arthur and Vera Smith’s legacy lives on within the walls of the new Silver Cross Hospital.

Physicians on Silver Cross Hospital’s Medical Staff have expertise in their areas of practice to meet the needs of patients seeking their care. These physicians are independent practitioners on the Medical Staff and are not the agents or employees of Silver Cross Hospital. They treat patients based upon their independent medical judgment and they bill patients separately for their services.
